Carol Singing A Great Success
Thanks to all who came out tonight to sing in Rannoch Rd and to Shirley for the warm refreshments afterwards. It was goo to be able to give almost every home (until we ran out) a box of mince-pies as a present from the Church for Christmas. We pray that the gift will allow the real message of Christmas to come alive for the people of Rannoch Road. Willie.

Hi there,
The singing was very pleasant and atmospheric.. However, I was somewhat shocked at the gift of Tesco mincepies! Is this mess of pottage (produced by a company with dubious ethics and containing fat I'd suggest we Rannoch Roadians don't exactly need)really meant to make me see the light and get down to church double quick?
I'd have been much more impressed if you'd asked for a donation to go to some of the millions of people all over the world who're hungry and dispossessed this Christmas!
Season's greetings!

Glad the carol singing was 'pleasant and atmospheric' - the odd wrong note didn't annoy you too much.
Firstly thanks for commenting on our blog.
Christmas is a time when we all give gifts, a tradition that we hope helps people to reflect on the gift of God's Son to the world. After all without Jesus Christmas wouldn't be part of our calendar!
You were unimpressed with our spending money on mincepies from Tesco as a present when many in the world are hungry and dispossessed. Can I simply say that the gift to you is not in isolation of gifts to the poor and homeless from Emmanuel Church and it's people on an ongoing basis. Just this evening we have sent a team to work on the Bethany Trust Care Van (a soup kitchen for the homeless), and throughout the year we help financially with the work of Bethany and Edinburgh City Mission. This is not to mention enabling children in South Africa the opportunity to go to school and providing for orphans in East Africa. We aren't a church that has forgotten the needs of the poor, homeless and marginalised.
As for you 'seeing the light' and getting 'down to church double quick', this is always our prayer and our hope. In knowing Jesus we have discovered life-changing news; news worth sharing. News which we know to be 'good news of great joy' as was the message of the Christmas Angel.
I hope you might be able to enjoy the mincepies, given with a heart that simply wants to bless the people of Rannoch Road with our friendship at Christmas.
With thanks and prayers,
Willie the rev!
